FeedFliks: A New Way To Search for Netflix Instant Watch Movies with Captions

FeedFliks search page.

Netflix‘s “Instant Watch” online movie streaming feature has become a sore topic for deaf movie enthusiasts, because it provides limited captioning options in comparison to the much more extensive DVD library, and — even where captioning is available in the “Watch Instantly” library — this feature is not searchable. This has prompted a deaf movie enthusiast to manually build a library of captioned movies he could locate himself, and, as a public service, list these movies on his own website. It is now a popular site for deaf Netflix customers.

I just learned today about a much more efficient way to search for captioned instant-watch movies. FeedFliks — available for free at its own website, and through the Netflix App Gallery — is a robust search engine for Netflix movies, with the ability to search for movies by specific characteristics, including whether it is subtitled or closed captioned. These results can be filtered by DVD or Instant Watch, giving deaf viewers the ability to identify Instant Watch movies they could watch in captions.

Ah, them’s fighting words. It’s interesting that you point this out. How many titles do you have, compared to FeedFliks?

Great find Mike! Mike C (ncmacasl) has 350+ titles and Feedflix has 100. Someone should give ncmacasl some seed money to make his site work like Feedflix …

Mike Chapman has 580+ titles now. Larger than FeedFliks and InstantWatcher.com. I posted an update this morning.

Michael: Thanks for the write-up! The reason FeedFliks shows only 100 is that the search results are limited to 100 for performance reasons. I can see that there are many, many more that are in our database. If you have any titles that are in fact CC but don’t show up as such on FeedFliks, just email feedback@feedfliks.com and I will definitely take a look at it. Or just search directly with that title name and you’ll see the CC icon next to the search result
